Farm Emergencies

Emergency Services Rescue Training (ESRT, Inc.) is a 501(c)3 not for profit company based in State College, PA. Our mission is to train emergency responders and agricultural workers how to be better prepared to respond to and manage farm related emergencies.

ESRT has been awarded a Michigan OSHA Consultation Education and Training (CET) Grant for the 2025/2026 grant cycle.  Class fees are covered by the grant.  The following classes are being offered:

• Managing Farm Tractor & Machinery Emergencies - Operations
  First responders will learn how unique farm equipment is and how to approach farm emergencies involving tractors and machines. The operations level includes hands on group activities, including patient driven scenarios. This will allow responders to understand how their tools and techniques will work with actual farm equipment.  Students must attend Friday night and Saturday.      
  Length: 12 hours   Format: Classroom and Farm Site
  
  
• Basic Strategies for Farm Emergencies - Awareness - classroom
  Emergency responders (fire, rescue, EMS) will gain awareness of potential emergencies involving a wide variety of farm issues.
  Length: 4 hours   Format: Classroom
  
  
• Haz Mat/Confined Spaces - classroom
  Emergency responders (police, fire, rescue, EMS) will gain awareness of potential emergencies involving various confined spaces on farms and how to protect themselves from harm when arriving on the scene of these emergencies.
  Length: 3 hours   Format: Classroom
  
  
• Man-v-Machine - Awareness - classroom
  Target audience is Emergency Medical Service responders who will potentially respond to these types of incidents. We will instruct EMS responders on the potential types of injuries they will encounter on the scene, hazards of ag emergencies and how to safely work alongside other Emergency Agencies.  Continuing education credits will be available with minimum of 30 day lead time.

Classes will be scheduled as open-enrollment classes.  Contact ESRT if you would like to host a class.  Participants from multiple departments are encouraged.  Michigan instructors are members of the Michigan Fire Service.
